    • Al-Nejashi in Tigray is the oldest mosque in Africa. The first building was erected in the 7th century.

    There were industrial activities at Gafat, near Debre Tabor during the reign of Emperor Tewodros II in the 1860’s manufacturing cannons and mortars.

    • The highlight was the mortar ‘Sebastopol’ weighing 6.27 metric tons and designed to fire 500 kilograms cannon ball.
    • The size of this cannon had no parallel in its time in Africa.
