Islam crossed the shores of the Red Sea into Axum before it was even properly established in Saudi Arabia.
- Some of Prophet Mohammed’s relatives including 107 Muslims came to Ethiopia during the persecution of Muslims in Mecca, and settled in Nejashi, Northern Ethiopia and then returned home safely after many years.
- Al-Nejashi in Tigray is the oldest mosque in Africa. The first building was erected in the 7th century.
