A total of 411 refugees travelling in three inflatable vessels were picked up on Monday by the Italian coastguard from waters off the coast of Libya.
According to the coastguard 1,800 refugees were found in open water on Monday, bringing the total up to 8,300 over five days. The most recent incident will mean over 94,000 refugees have been brought to Italian ports in 2016, roughly equivalent to the figures for the same period of last year.
