Uganda will pull out its forces from Somalia by December 2017

Uganda will pull its forces from Somalia by December 2017.

The country’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Katumba Wamala, said the decision was taken because of frustration with the Somali army and international partners, the BBC reports.

Uganda provides the biggest contingent of troops to the African Union force fighting Somalia-based Islamists militant group al-Shabaab.

The Ugandan troops have played a big role in pushing the terror group out of many urban areas.

The East African nation’s government says there is poor coordination in the activities of the various armies that have been deployed in Somalia, and that has been a major problem.

General Wamala said Uganda could pull out of Somalia before December 2017 if another country was found to replace it.
