The petty result of the second leg match of the Walias with Algeria

The Ethiopian national side was forced to share the spoils and settle for a point after being held 3:3 in a match the side played on its home soil on March 20 2008 EC with its Algerian counterpart: the game was part of group 10 qualifying matches for booking a place in the African cup of nations tournament to be hosted by Gabon next year.

In a thrilling game and enticing movement the Walias pressed their opponents and managed to put themselves ahead, thanks to a goal scored by Getaneh Kebede at the 28th minute of the first half; and the away side was able to go in to the second half one each scoring a goal on the counter attack by Islam Suleiman.

The coach of the Walias, Mr. Yohannes Sahle, made a change to his side by introducing Dawit Fekadu for Behailu Assefa after the interval and in just three minutes Getaneh found the net from close range putting his side in front and grabbing a second for himself; every body was gutted when it took only less than 20 minutes for the visitors to put themselves level by scoring at the 61st minute by Issa Mandi. Even though substitute Dawit Fekadu of the host side was able to  change the score line to 3:2, the visitors who thoroughly understood the defensive frailties and their hosts inability to grind out a result were finally able to clinch a point by scoring a late penalty.

Disappointments have been rife from our supporters in the aftermath of the match who voiced their frustrations in their side's naivete in throwing away a one goal advantage after impressing throughout and conceding a late equalizer.
