  • Ethiopia, WB sign USD 100mln loan agreement

Ethiopia and the World Bank (WB) have today signed additional 100 Million USD loan agreement to implement the fourth phase of the Productive Safety Nets Program (PSNP IV).

The additional financing will enable the PSNP IV to provide safety net support to households affected by the drought thereby strengthening their resilience, stated Ahmed Shide State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation during the agreement signing ceremony.

“The additional loan we just signed today is intended to scale-up PSNP IV supports in response to the El Nino induced drought by Safety nets transfers to chronically food insecure households,” Ahmed said.

“The additional financing will support an estimated 4.5 million PSNP clients in the period from July to December 2016.”

The latest WB fund will help support Ethiopia’s efforts to respond to the ongoing drought.

WB Country Director for Ethiopia, Carolyn Turk on her part said the WB has been working in partnership with Ethiopia and supporting the PSNP since its inception eleven years ago.

  • Ethiopian demonstrators arrested after protesting 'racist Israeli authorities'

A number of Ethiopian activists were placed under arrest Sunday evening after police said that they had "disrupted the public order" during a protest held in Tel Aviv.

Israel Police said in a statement that the demonstrators were detained after they began blocking the entrance to the South Ayalon Highway, preventing the flow of traffic to vehicles.

"During the event several protestors chose to ignore the orders giving by officers and began to disrupt the public order and block roads," the police statement reads.

Demonstrators had taken to the streets to protest what they said was ill-treatment and "oppression" from the "authorities" who they claim have targeted the Ethiopian community for "years."

"We are fed up, we are the new generation!," protestors chanted throughout a number of busy Tel Aviv streets.

  • Cameron to quit as UK votes to leave EU

Prime Minister David Cameron is to step down by October after the UK voted to leave the European Union.

Mr Cameron made the announcement in a statement outside Downing Street after the final result was announced. He said he would attempt to "steady the ship" over the coming weeks and months but that "fresh leadership" was needed.

The PM had urged the country to vote Remain, warning of economic and security consequences of an exit, but the UK voted to Leave by 52% to 48%. England and Wales voted strongly for Brexit, while London, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed staying in.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage hailed it as the UK's "independence day" but the Remain camp called it a "catastrophe". The pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985 as the markets reacted to the results.

Flanked by wife Samantha, Mr Cameron said he had informed the Queen of his decision to remain in place for the short term and to then hand over to a new prime minister by the time of the Conservative conference in October.

  • 10 Countries Without Armed Forces

Most countries have large military forces that are able to deploy and protect at any given time (the largest and most notable being China, at about 1,600,000 army personnel), while some countries have no military at all. Below is a list of 10 countries without armed forces. Each of them with variable reasons why; some because of the country’s history other because of its location. Whereas many of us believe that a military force is a necessity, there are countries that see or have no need for them; but, in many cases, there is a back-up plan in the case that the country is attacked or war is declared upon that country. Japan is not included in this list because, while the country may officially have no military according to Article 9 of its Constitution, it does have the Japan Self-Defence Forces, a military force for national territory defence that may only be deployed outside Japan for UN peacekeeping missions.

These are 10 Countries with absolutely no military forces.
